The map sensor (manifold absolute pressure) measures absolute air pressure in the inlet manifold. The data is used to calculate air density and determine the engine’s air mass flow rate, which in turn determines the required fuel metering for optimum combustion. The engine computer then uses this information to adjust ignition timing and fuel enrichment.
